Damascus, Apr.13 (SANA) President Ahmad al-Sharaa convened with Syrian businessman Muhammad Kamel Sabbagh Sharbati at the People’s Palace in Damascus on Monday.
During the meeting, discussions focused on the textile industry and ways to modernize and revitalize the sector in Syria.
Sharbati is regarded as one of Syria’s leading textile industrialists. He founded Sabbagh Sharbati Spinning and Weaving Company and previously owned some of the largest textile factories in the country. He also served as chairman of the Aleppo Chamber of Industry between 2001 and 2007.
He is widely known for holding a 95 percent stake in Sabbagh Sharbati (Nortex), and for founding al-Baraka Spinning Company. He also participated in establishing Sama Syria.
In Egypt, he established the Quadruple Company for Spinning, Weaving and Dyeing in Sadat City, considered one of the largest textile manufacturing facilities in Africa.
Sharbati assumed the presidency of the Arab Federation for Textile Industries, headquartered in Aleppo, in 2005. He is also a co-founder of the Arab Bank–Syria.
In February 2026, he founded Maria Pharmaceutical and Medical Industries LLC in Aleppo, with the company’s establishment ratified by the Ministry of Economy and Industry.
