Ankara, Oct. 20 (SANA) Turkish Presidential Communications Director Burhanettin Duran said Tuesday that the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement represents a pivotal step toward giving joint cooperation between Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan an institutional and sustainable character.
Commenting on the referral of the bill to ratify the Mecca Defense Pact to the Turkish parliament, Duran said in a post on the Turkish platform InSocial that “the strategic partnership between the three countries aims to strengthen collective deterrence, develop joint defense capabilities and maintain security and stability in the region.”
He added that the agreement, based on the principle of regional states taking responsibility for addressing their own issues, “reflects a shared will that prioritizes security and solidarity.” Duran expressed hope that the parliamentary ratification process would yield positive results for Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.
On Aug. 7, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman signed the Mecca Defense Alliance. The agreement, reflecting a shared vision focused on regional security and stability, aims to strengthen the security of the three countries through deterrence and collective defense.
An attack on one of them is considered an attack on all, and the pact provides for enhancing interoperability among the three countries’ armed forces, deepening defense industry cooperation and strengthening joint counterterrorism efforts.
