Damascus, April 7 (SANA) Finance Minister Mohamed Yisr Barnieh instructed the General Commission for Taxes and Fees as well as provincial finance directorates to suspend all financial claims and legal actions against government-sponsored students studying abroad and their guarantors, pending the preparation and approval of a comprehensive financial settlement.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Barnieh said the measure responds to requests from students to halt enforcement and collection procedures related to outstanding financial obligations, noting that work is underway to reach an agreed administrative and financial settlement.
He stressed that the decision does not waive the rights of the public treasury, but aims to ensure the success of the settlement process while easing the burden on students and their guarantors.
The move follows recent government measures to lift travel bans imposed on sponsored students, facilitating their return to Syria.
