Damascus, July 14 (SANA) UK Special Envoy to Syria Barrie Peach said Monday that the inaugural session of Syria’s People’s Assembly, held on Sunday, marked an important step in the country’s political transition, reaffirming the United Kingdom’s support for efforts to strengthen Syrian state institutions.
In a statement posted by his office on X platform, Peach said the United Kingdom stands ready to support efforts aimed at strengthening Syrian state institutions and promoting long-term peace, stability and security.
He also said he’s looking forward to work with the People’s Assembly and its newly appointed members as they begin their parliamentary duties.
Syria’s People’s Assembly held its first session since the country’s liberation on Sunday in the presence of President Ahmad al-Sharaa, Chairman of the Higher Committee for People’s Assembly Elections Mohammad al-Ahmad, and several ministers.
