Riyadh, March 3 (SANA) Saudi Arabia on Tuesday condemned in the strongest terms an Iranian attack that targeted the U.S. Embassy in Riyadh.
The Saudi Foreign Ministry said in a statement: “The Kingdom confirmed that the Iranian attack on the U.S. Embassy in Riyadh constituted a clear violation of international law,” citing the 1949 Geneva Conventions and the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, both of which guarantee the immunity of diplomatic buildings even during armed conflict.
Saudi Arabia warned that the continued repetition of Iranian attacks, despite Tehran being aware that the Kingdom has made clear it will not allow its airspace or territory to be used to target Iran, would push the region toward further escalation.
The Kingdom reiterated its full right to take all necessary measures to protect its security, territorial integrity, citizens, residents and vital interests, explicitly including the option of responding to aggression.
Earlier Tuesday morning, the U.S. Embassy in Riyadh was struck by two drones, causing a fire and material damage to the building, according to the Saudi Defense Ministry.
