Davos, Jan. 22 (SANA) U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday praised Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa, saying he was delivering “significant achievements” and working “very hard,” while noting that the lifting of U.S. sanctions represents an opportunity for Syria’s economic recovery.
Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos during a ceremony launching the Global Peace Council, Trump said Syria had overcome a range of challenges and was now showing signs of positive change. He described the lifting of U.S. sanctions as a chance to allow the country to rebuild its economy and strengthen internal stability.
At the same event, Trump also announced the launch of a Peace Council focused on Gaza, saying it would include prominent global leaders and could become a major international body.
Trump, who said he will chair the council, added that there was an opportunity to end decades of violence and bloodshed in the Middle East and beyond.
