Damascus, Jan.18 (SANA) The Syrian government strongly condemned the execution of prisoners and detainees by the SDF organization and groups affiliated with the terrorist PKK organization in the city of al-Tabqa, in the countryside of Raqqa province, prior to their withdrawal from the area.
In a statement, the government stated that the execution of prisoners and detainees—particularly civilians—constitutes a crime in all its elements under the Geneva Conventions and represents a blatant violation of international humanitarian law.
The statement noted that this criminal conduct reflects the militia-like nature of the SDF organization and its methods of taking civilians and prisoners hostage. “The Syrian government hold the organization fully responsible for these acts, pledges to pursue fair legal accountability and justice for the families of the victims” the statement said.
The government also called on the international community to condemn the crime.
