ANKARA, Jan.14 (SANA) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that “liberating Aleppo city” from the SDF organization represents a significant step toward lasting peace and stability in Syria.
Speaking on Monday during a meeting of the Justice and Development Party’s Central Executive Committee, Erdogan was quoted by Turkish media as saying that “clearing Aleppo from the elements of Kurdish People’s Protection Units is an important achievement in establishing peace, stability and security in Syria.” He added that recent developments in the city offer a “historic opportunity” to implement the March 10 agreement.
Under that agreement, reached on March 10 between the Syrian state and the SDF organization, the force would be integrated into state institutions, while reaffirming Syria’s territorial unity and rejecting any separatist projects.
Erdogan said the Syrian government had addressed the unreasonable demands by the SDF in a rational and inclusive manner, in a way that serves the interests of the Syrian people.
The Syrian Arab Army’s Operations Command announced on Saturday that it had completed security sweeps in Aleppo’s Ashrafieh and Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhoods, with SDF elements departing toward northeastern Syria.
