Fidan: SDF must abandon divisive policies

Ankara, Jan.08 (SANA) Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said it is time to strengthen national unity in Syria, stressing that SDF organization must abandon divisive policies that, undermine stability and prolong the crisis.

Speaking at a joint press conference in Ankara with Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Hamad Al Busaidi, Fidan said recent developments in Aleppo reflect long-standing Turkish warnings about the situation on the ground.

Fidan said SDF has failed to assume its responsibility toward national unity in Syria, adding that the organization has sought to gain time and maintain the existing situation instead of contributing to an integration process. He noted that this approach deepens instability and serves neither the Syrian people nor regional stability.

The Turkish foreign minister said the Syrian government has recently made progress in rebuilding state capacity, enhancing its counterterrorism capabilities and improving the delivery of basic services to citizens.

Fidan reaffirmed that Turkey supports lasting stability in Syria based on sovereignty, territorial integrity and national unity
