Damascus, Jan. 5 (SANA) A Syrian government source said a Syrian delegation, led by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani and Head of the General Intelligence apparatus Hussein al-Salameh, is taking part in the current round of negotiations with the Israeli side under U.S. coordination and mediation.
The source told SANA that the resumption of the talks reaffirms Syria’s firm commitment to restoring its non-negotiable national rights.
The discussions, the source said, are primarily focused on reactivating the 1974 Disengagement Agreement, with the aim of ensuring the withdrawal of Israeli forces to the lines in place prior to Dec. 8, 2024 within a reciprocal security agreement that prioritizes full Syrian sovereignty and guarantees the prevention of any form of interference in Syria’s internal affairs.
