New York, Dec.29 (SANA) Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ibrahim Olabi, said that Israel has been occupying the Syrian Golan for nearly sixty years, and the UN General Assembly reaffirmed Syria’s sovereignty over the Golan this month, with 123 countries voting for the necessity of Israel’s complete withdrawal from the area.
“Israel continues fortification operations in the disengagement zone, while also persisting in violating international laws. In contrast, Syria has demonstrated full commitment to international legitimacy despite repeated incursions, assaults on Syrian civilians and acts of abduction.” Olabi added in a session of the UN Security Council Monday.
He added that “Israel” is obstructing the work of the UN peacekeeping force in the occupied Syrian Golan, and it must withdraw from Mount Hermon and abide by the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.
Today, the United Nations Security Council has approved the renewal of the mandate of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) in the occupied Syrian Golan for six months.
