Damascus, Dec. 11 (SANA) Syria welcomed Thursday the U.S. House of Representatives’ vote in favor of repealing the “Caesar Act,” saying it is a direct result of constructive diplomatic efforts between Syria and the United States, led by President Ahmad al-Sharaa and the Syrian government over the past several months.
In a statement, Syria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the vote as a “pivotal moment” in the country’s diplomatic relations with the U.S., emphasizing that the decision opens the door to rebuilding trust and cooperation. The Ministry added that this step paves the way for broader economic recovery and the return of opportunities long denied to Syrians due to sanctions.
The vote represents a first step toward tangible improvements in trade flows, the availability of essential goods, medical supplies, and conditions that will support Syria’s reconstruction efforts, the statement added.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to eliminating the remaining restrictions in the service of the Syrian people’s interests. It also expressed gratitude to all those who supported this diplomatic process and hopes the upcoming Senate vote will lead to the complete removal of the remaining sanctions, opening new avenues for cooperation between Syria and the United States.
