Syrian foreign minister meets president of the Middle East Institute in Damascus

Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani, met on Tuesday President of the Middle East Institute, Ambassador Stuart Jones, in Damascus.

The meeting addressed developments in the Middle East region, amid ongoing regional and international challenges.

The talks also covered Syrian-American relations and ways to enhance bilateral dialogue. The two sides discussed joint cooperation across various fields, with a focus on lifting the Caesar Act sanctions.

This meeting reflects both sides’ interest in opening new channels of communication and easing tensions, as part of Syria’s efforts to enhance international relations and promote regional stability.

Founded in 1946, the Middle East Institute is the oldest Washington-based institution dedicated to Middle East studies.

Its mission is to increase knowledge of the region in the United States and promote understanding between its people and those of the Middle East. MEI serves as a non-partisan think tank that provides analysis, education, and cultural exchange related to the region.
