Damascus, April 28 (SANA) Technical teams from the Syrian Atomic Energy Commission (SAEC), in coordination with the Syrian Petroleum Company (SPC), carried out field visits and radiation surveys in Deir Ezzor Governorate to ensure safety, protect personnel and the environment, and support the restoration of oil facilities.

SAEC said on its Telegram channel Monday that the work included radiological surveys of oil and associated water collection pits at al-Taym field and its stations in al-Shula and Nishan, as well as Dero field and several of its stations. The surveys also covered Well 101 al-Ashara, affiliated with al-Tanak field.

The teams conducted inspections of scrap equipment at al-Kharata and Dero stations to confirm it was free of radioactive contamination and safe for handling. In addition, “Christmas tree” valves were examined to ensure their safety and readiness for reuse at al-Omar field.

SAEC said similar surveys were recently carried out in gas fields in the Homs countryside and at Baniyas Refinery, contributing to safe and efficient production.

The commission said the work is part of a national plan targeting oil facilities across Syria to ensure high standards of radiation safety while protecting workers, civilians and the environment.

Established in 1976, SAEC is the national body responsible for atomic energy and its peaceful applications in Syria, overseeing the safe use of radioactive materials and supporting research and technical services.

The Syrian Petroleum Company, established in 1974 and restructured in 2025 under Decree No. 189, is Syria’s state-owned oil exploration and production company.
