Russia is engaged in intensive contacts and serious talks with Syrian officials, Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin said Saturday, highlighting growing ties between the two countries.
“We have had very active contacts recently with representatives of the Syrian government,” Vershinin told Russia’s TASS news agency. He added that the Russian–Syrian Joint Committee for Trade and Economic Cooperation recently held a session in Moscow, describing it as an “important event for both sides”.
Bilateral relations between Moscow and Damascus have seen increased activity in recent months. Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa visited Moscow on Oct. 15 and met with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss strengthening strategic cooperation across multiple sectors.
