Yerli Kaya: Nearly 500,000 Syrians have returned voluntarily since the fall of regime

Ankara, SANA – Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced today that more than 450,000 Syrians have voluntarily returned from Turkey to their homeland since the fall of the former regime on December 8.

In a tweet on his account on the “X” platform, Yerli Kaya articulated that since the liberation of Syria, requests for voluntary return have increased, and the number of Syrians who have returned to their country voluntarily and safely since that time has reached 450,169 people, bringing the total number of returnees so far to one million, 190,172 people.

The Turkish Minister revealed a noticeable decline in the number of Syrians in Turkey in August 2025 to two million 506 thousand and 740 people.

Yerlikaya noted that the Turkish government is handling the voluntary return of Syrians with “great care,” expecting the number of voluntary returnees to increase as the situation in Syria stabilizes.
