New York, Aug. 28 (SANA) The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) said Thursday that Security Council Resolution 1701 requires Israeli forces to withdraw from Lebanese territory, stressing that it remains the main framework for stability in southern Lebanon.

In a statement posted on X, UNIFIL said the resolution calls for respect for the Blue Line, cessation of hostilities, Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory and the extension of Lebanese state authority throughout the country.

UNIFIL said it supports Lebanon and Israel in fulfilling their obligations under the resolution, monitors and reports violations and assists the Lebanese Army and local communities.

The force said full implementation ultimately depends on both sides, with the long-term goal of achieving lasting stability and security and allowing Lebanese people to return safely to their homes.

The Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution 1701 in 2006 to end hostilities between Hezbollah and Israel.

Israeli occupation forces have repeatedly targeted UNIFIL positions and patrols in southern Lebanon in recent months, with incidents of gunfire and shelling resulting in several injuries.
