Kuwait, Aug. 17 (SANA) Kuwait condemned the Israeli occupation authorities’ rejection of a roadmap to complete the implementation of US President Donald Trump’s comprehensive plan to end the war in Gaza, endorsed by UN Security Council Resolution 2803, as well as their rejection of an independent Palestinian state.
In a statement posted on X on Sunday, the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry said that “these positions constitute an explicit rejection of moving forward with the implementation of the comprehensive plan and fundamentally undermine collective efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace, including those undertaken by Qatar, Egypt, Türkiye, the United States, the Peace Council and all concerned parties.”
The ministry called on the international community to assume its responsibilities and compel the occupation authorities to fully comply with the commitments and arrangements stipulated in the comprehensive plan and its accompanying roadmap, and to prevent further obstruction of their implementation.
It stressed that full and immediate implementation of the plan would help address the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, ensure security and stability, pave the way for reconstruction and recovery, and advance a just and lasting peace based on the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and to establish an independent state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international law and relevant UN resolutions.
On January 17, US President Donald Trump announced the formation of a “Peace Council” for the Gaza Strip, days after US Special Presidential Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff announced the launch of the second phase of Trump’s 20-point plan, which includes establishing a transitional technocratic Palestinian administration in Gaza.
On January 21, the foreign ministers of eight Arab and Islamic countries announced their acceptance of the US president’s invitation to join the Peace Council. The countries are Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, Egypt, Jordan, Indonesia, Pakistan, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
