Cairo/Riyadh, July 10 (SANA) The Arab Parliament and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) on Friday welcomed U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to remove Syria from the U.S. list of State Sponsors of Terrorism, describing it as a significant step toward supporting the country’s recovery, stability and reintegration into the international community.

In a statement posted on X, Arab Parliament Speaker Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Yamahi said the decision would help Syria resume its role at the international level while easing economic and humanitarian pressures on the Syrian people.

He said the move would create opportunities to revive the economy, attract investment and advance reconstruction efforts, contributing to Syria’s recovery, development and long-term stability.

Al Yamahi reaffirmed the Arab Parliament’s support for efforts aimed at preserving Syria’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity, strengthening state institutions and promoting security and stability.
He also called on the international community to continue taking steps that support Syria’s economic recovery and expand cooperation with Damascus in ways that serve the interests of the Syrian people and contribute to regional security and development.

In a separate statement, the GCC welcomed Trump’s announcement, describing it as an important step toward supporting Syria’s security and stability.

GCC Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed Al Budaiwi said he hoped the decision would reinforce regional and international efforts to promote stability in Syria while encouraging broader international engagement with the country. He said stronger cooperation would help Syria restore its regional and international standing and support its development and prosperity.

Al Budaiwi reaffirmed the GCC’s support for Syria’s unity, sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, rejecting any interference in its internal affairs and stressing the importance of continued efforts to secure a stable and prosperous future for the Syrian people.

The statements followed a message received by President Ahmad al-Sharaa from President Trump on Wednesday informing him that Washington had begun procedures to remove Syria’s designation as a State Sponsor of Terrorism. Under U.S. law, Congress will conduct a 45-day review before the decision becomes final.
