Tartous, Feb. 5 (SANA) Two people were killed and 11 others injured on Wednesday evening when a train collided with a civilian vehicle near the town of al-Mantar in the Tartous countryside, the Syrian Civil Defense said.

The vehicle, which was carrying workers, was struck while crossing the railway, according to the Civil Defense.

In a statement on its Telegram channel, the Civil Defense said its teams from the Emergency and Disaster Management Directorate in Tartous responded to the scene, removed the vehicle from the tracks and secured the area. The injured were taken to hospitals by civilians in the area.

The Civil Defense renewed its call for the public to follow safety procedures and cross railway lines only at designated crossings to prevent similar incidents and protect lives.
