Beirut, July 1 (SANA) Lebanese President, Joseph Aoun, and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis discussed efforts to end the escalation in Lebanon during a phone call on Wednesday, according to Lebanon’s National News Agency.
The two leaders reviewed developments in Lebanon and the wider region, including efforts to implement a framework agreement reached following Lebanese-U.S.-Israeli negotiations in Washington aimed at ending the recent escalation.
Mitsotakis expressed Greece’s support for the framework agreement and for the Lebanese government’s efforts to extend state authority across all Lebanese territory.
He also reaffirmed Greece’s readiness to assist Lebanon in overcoming its current challenges, particularly by supporting the Lebanese Armed Forces.
Mitsotakis said he had instructed Greece’s defense minister to coordinate with his Lebanese counterpart on the matter.
Lebanon and Israel signed the framework agreement on June 26 following a fifth round of negotiations in Washington.
Lebanon has maintained throughout the talks that a full withdrawal of Israeli forces from areas they entered during the latest conflict remains one of its principal demands.
