Finance Minister: We thank Sweden for its $80 million grant to Syria

Finance Minister: We thank Sweden for its $80 million grant to Syria

Damascus, SANA- Finance Minister Mohammad Mohammed Yisr Barnieh met with the Swedish Ambassador to Syria and Lebanon, Jessica Svärdström, as he expressed his sincere thanks to the Swedish government for its generous $80 million grant to Syria, allocated for the years 2025 and 2026.

During a joint meeting at the Ministry of Finance., minister Barnieh and Ambassador Svärdström discussed bilateral Syrian-Swedish financial relations and opportunities to support ongoing reform plans in Syria.

Barnieh said, “ we explored ,during our discussions, the key priority areas of the Swedish grant, including providing technical assistance and capacity building in the areas of public finance and the broader financial sector.”

The Finance Minister affirmed the importance of allocating the largest portion of the grant to rehabilitate schools and government hospitals across Syria.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Syrian and Swedish sides agreed to receive a delegation from major Swedish companies to explore investment opportunities in Syria.
