Lattakia Governor: Situation is stable and dialogue continues with all groups

Lattakia,Dec. 29(SANA) Lattakia Governor Mohammad Othman affirmed that the security situation in the governorate is currently stable, following the containment of clashes in some areas, the reinforcement of security forces, and the deployment of additional patrols.

Othman explained, in an interview with Syrian Al-Ikhbariya TV, that security and police forces were instructed from the outset to protect demonstrations, ensure safety, and prevent friction.

He noted that most protests ended without significant incidents, while some areas witnessed attempts by wanted people linked to remnants of the former regime and external agendas to divert protesters’ demands and attack security personnel. These incidents resulted in injuries among security forces and civilians, as well as the martyrdom of one security member and two civilians.

The governor stressed that the state stands equidistant from all residents of the governorate and continues to hold dialogue sessions and direct meetings with various groups to convey their demands, address them, alleviate suffering, and provide necessary services for all.

Othman pointed out that President Ahmad al-Sharaa directly listened to the demands of coastal residents during recent meetings, leaving a positive impression among citizens. Several demands have already begun to be implemented, including the release of dozens of detainees, as part of a reform approach characterised by transparency and seriousness.

He stated that declarations issued by Alawite community leaders rejecting external calls and sectarian incitement reflect the true reality in the governorate. He affirmed that attempts to exploit sectarian divisions or promote ideas of partition and federalism are rejected by the people of Lattakia, as they contradict national principles, foremost among them Syria’s unity of land and people.

The governor concluded by reaffirming the continuation of dialogue with all groups and communities, strengthening civil peace, and focusing on the next stage of building a new Syria that unites all Syrians under the umbrella of national unity.

The security personnel assigned to protect demonstrations were subjected, today, to direct assaults in Lattakia city, in addition to targeted attacks in rural Tartous carried out by groups linked to remnants of the former regime, while performing their duty to safeguard protesters and maintain public order.
