Armed remnants attack internal security during protests in Lattakia

Lattakia, Dec. 28 (SANA) Armed members of the deposed regime’s remnants exploited protest gatherings to attack internal security personnel with live fire, resulting in martyrdom and injuries among officers responsible for protecting the demonstrations, a source at the Ministry of Interior confirmed to SANA on Sunday.

The source stated: “We urge our citizens in the coastal region not to fall for calls that appear as protests but conceal armed activities.”

He added: “The arrest of members of armed groups linked to the deposed regime’s remnants demonstrates the true purpose behind these protest calls and the incitement against internal security forces.”

The Ministry emphasized that its personnel continue to exercise maximum restraint when confronted with armed assaults and that it will not allow the situation to escalate into chaos or armed violence.

Authorities note that since the fall of the deposed regime, groups connected to its remnants have refused the ongoing political and institutional transition, turning to incitement and calls for demonstrations under divisive slogans, aiming to provoke violence, exploit civil cover, target security and army personnel, and damage public property.
