Three killed, 60 injured in Latakia, as remnants attack security forces (Updated)

Lattakia, Dec. 28 (SANA) Three people were killed and 60 others injured after remnants of the deposed regime attacked security forces and civilians during protests in Lattakia on Sunday.

The Directorate of Health told SANA that the injuries included stabbings, blows from stones, and gunfire targeting both security personnel and civilians. Two ambulances were vandalized damaged during the unrest, but medical teams continue providing emergency care.

SANA correspondents reported that security forces deployed at key locations, including al-Azhari and al-Zira’a roundabouts in Lattakia and in Jableh, to ensure the safety of participants and protect public order.

Colonel Abdulaziz al-Ahmad, head of internal security in Lattakia, said that “elements linked to remnants of the deposed regime” participating in protests called by Ghazal Ghazal attacked internal security personnel, injuring several and damaging official vehicles.

Al-Ahmad added that armed and masked individuals affiliated with the so-called “Saraya Deraa al-Sahel” and “Saraya al-Jawad” were present during the demonstrations. These groups are responsible for targeted killings and planting explosives along the M1 highway.

During the protests at al-Azhari Roundabout, gunfire was reportedly fired into the air by masked gunmen, while security forces contained the situation and restored order. Forces remain deployed across major streets and squares to protect citizens and property.

Since the fall of the deposed regime, loyal groups have rejected the current political and institutional order, attempting to incite violence under divisive slogans, using civilian protests as a cover to target security personnel and damage public property.
