President al-Sharaa: The liberation of Aleppo was the gateway to liberating Syria

Damascus, Nov 29 (SANA) President Ahmad al-Sharaa participated in the celebration at the Aleppo Citadel marking the first anniversary of its liberation from the former regime, stating that the liberation of the city was the gateway to liberating all of Syria.

President al-Sharaa told the gathering: “At moments like these, we remember the first hours of entering the city of Aleppo—hours in which we lost so much at its gates. Our people sacrificed dearly until we reached what we have achieved today.”

The president recalled the moments when “the heroes entered Aleppo to liberate its people from the fallen regime,” adding that when Aleppo was liberated it “was reborn, and with its rebirth, all of Syria was reborn.” He continued: “In such moments, a new history for all of Syria was being written, through Aleppo and its towering citadel.”

The president said that when Aleppo was liberated, he was certain that Damascus would be liberated as well. “From the walls of Aleppo, we saw Damascus liberated, and from the walls of this citadel, we saw the fighters in the heart of Damascus. For us, Aleppo was the gateway to entering all of Syria. After Aleppo was liberated, the prisons were opened and smiles returned to the faces of Syria’s children.”

President al-Sharaa added that with Aleppo’s liberation, “hope returned to the entire nation that Syria would once again come back into its embrace. Today is not merely a celebration of Aleppo, but a marker of a new history being written for all of Syria and for the entire region.”

The president concluded by saying that with this liberation, “a long road now lies before us, its rebuilding and restoration. The reconstruction of Aleppo is a firm and essential part of rebuilding Syria.”
