The Port of Lattakia welcomed the arrival of the cargo vessel “AKINOS” on Monday, carrying approximately 17,000 tons of plywood from Indonesia. The docking of “AKINOS” is seen as another signal of renewed confidence in Syria’s maritime infrastructure and the port’s growing capacity to handle large-scale commercial shipments.
This development follows the recent arrival of the “NAVEGANTES”, a 222-meter-long cargo ship operated by global shipping giant CMA CGM, which docked earlier this month. The “NAVEGANTES” is among the largest vessels to berth at Lattakia, according to Syria’s General Authority of Land and Sea Ports.
Port officials have described these back-to-back arrivals as a milestone in Lattakia’s resurgence as a strategic shipping hub on the eastern Mediterranean. The increased traffic comes amid efforts by Syrian authorities to modernize port operations and restore the country’s position in regional trade networks.
“These recent arrivals reflect the readiness of Syrian ports to accommodate large vessels in line with international standards,” the General Authority stated.
Both vessels carried essential goods for domestic distribution, underscoring the port’s role in supporting local markets and revitalizing the national economy through expanded commercial activity.
