DAMASCUS (SANA) — The General Authority for Land and Sea Ports presented its pavilion at the 62nd Damascus International Fair as a window into Syria’s role in regional and international transit, highlighting ports, border crossings, airports, and free zones as key arteries of economic life.
An interactive digital map at the pavilion provided visitors with detailed statistics and information on Syria’s border points and the country’s 10 free zone establishments. Officials said the display reflected Syria’s efforts to reopen to regional and global trade.
Mushir al-Ramah, the pavilion’s media officer, said the participation aimed to introduce the Authority’s mandate and services. “The interactive map offers comprehensive data on border crossings and free zones, showing the strategic role Syria plays in transit and investment,” he noted.
Al-Ramah added that free zones continue to provide an attractive investment environment by offering tax and customs exemptions to encourage new projects.
Investor Ahmed Kanan, who is developing a tower in Damascus’ al-Baramkeh free zone, said his project consists of a 12-story service building with floor areas ranging between 480 and 510 square meters. “Each floor includes three or four offices, designed flexibly to meet investor demand,” he explained.
Officials emphasized that the pavilion was designed to show that Syria’s ports and free zones are more than just crossing points — they are economic gateways underpinning the country’s recovery and connectivity with the wider region.
