Sweida, SANA- Dignitaries of Sweida province welcomed the entry of Interior and Defense Ministry forces to the city, calling for extending the state’s authority over the city and hand over weapons.

The dignitaries said in a statement Tuesday: “Following the recent events that affected Sweida Governorate and which left a large number of victims, and out of our desire to restore security to the governorate, and out of our belief that achieving justice requires extending the state’s authority over the governorate through official institutions, particularly security and military ones.

The articles of the statement:

1.We welcome entry of Interior and Defense Ministries forces to take control of security and military centers and secure the governorate.

2.We call on all armed factions in Sweida to cooperate with Interior Ministry and hand over their weapons to the appropriate authorities, as we also call for an immediate ceasefire until reaching an agreement that guarantees the safety of civilians.

3.We call for dialogue with the Syrian government to address the recent events’ repercussions and to reassert the state’s authority through its legitimate institutions in cooperation with the governorate’s citizens.

They added “We, in Sheikhdom of Mind, have exerted the utmost efforts over past months to spare our people this bloody confrontation through activating dialogue with the Syrian state and the agreement signed in May was a positive step, but some parties are seeking to create chaos, and we hold them responsible for the current bloodshed”.
