Aden, Sept. 17 (SANA) More than 122,000 people from 17,852 families were displaced across eight governorates in Yemen between Sept. 1 and 15 amid intensified Houthi attacks and deteriorating security conditions, Yemen’s Executive Unit for IDP Camp Management said.
The unit said in a report published on its website that it recorded 122,297 displaced people during the two-week period, with Taiz the hardest-hit governorate at 9,562 families, followed by Lahj with 4,511, Aden with 1,180 and Abyan with 1,003.
Smaller numbers were recorded in Hadramout, Al-Mahrah and Shabwa. The report also covered displacement in Hodeidah.
Some families have been displaced more than once. The unit said 1,471 families previously recorded in the Hays and Al-Khawkhah districts of Hodeidah had fled again toward Aden. Field teams are tracking their destinations, updating registration data and assessing humanitarian needs.
The unit identified shelter, food, safe drinking water, sanitation, healthcare, protection, non-food items and cash assistance among the most urgent needs, particularly for children, women, older people, people with disabilities and other vulnerable households.
It called on UN agencies, international and local organizations, donors and humanitarian partners to mobilize additional resources and expand assistance.
The figures come amid a sharp rise in displacement as fighting intensifies in Yemen. The International Organization for Migration said on Sept. 13 that its Displacement Tracking Matrix had recorded 85,818 displaced people, including 82,164 since the beginning of September. IOM said fighting along Yemen’s West Coast was continuing to force families from their homes.planting caused by lower temperatures and rainfall through May, reduced irrigation water, higher production costs and damage to irrigation infrastructure.
Agricultural authorities have also been promoting modern irrigation methods and locally developed cotton varieties as part of efforts to improve yields, reduce water use and strengthen the crop’s resilience to heat, water stress, pests and disease.
Cotton in Hasakah is harvested in three successive rounds according to the maturity and opening of the bolls. The first picking typically accounts for the largest share of production because it includes most of the cotton that has already matured, with the remaining crop collected in subsequent rounds.
