Cairo-Tunis, Sept. 9 (SANA) The Arab League and the Council of Arab Interior Ministers condemned attacks by the Houthi militia on civilian and economic facilities in Saudi Arabia that injured 73 civilians, including women and children, warning that continued escalation threatens regional security and navigation in the Red Sea.
Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen spokesperson Maj. Gen. Turki al-Maliki said the Houthi militia targeted civilian and economic facilities in Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan and Najran, describing the attacks as a dangerous and irresponsible escalation.
Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy said the attacks, along with the continued targeting of commercial vessels in the Red Sea, violate international law, international humanitarian law, the UN Charter and the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, and challenge relevant UN Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2216.
Fahmy reaffirmed the League’s full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and support for its legitimate measures to protect its citizens, national interests, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
He warned that continued Houthi escalation and threats to Red Sea navigation could have serious repercussions for regional security and stability, stressing that Saudi Arabia’s security is a cornerstone of Arab national security.
The General Secretariat of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers separately condemned the attacks as “cowardly terrorist acts” and a flagrant violation of international and humanitarian law.
It reaffirmed its full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and support for measures taken by the Kingdom to safeguard its security and stability and protect its citizens and residents.
