Kathmandu, Sept. 3 (SANA) The death toll from devastating floods in Nepal and China’s Tibet region has risen to 1,273, while thousands of people remain missing as search and rescue operations continue, according to figures released by authorities in both countries.
Nepal News reported that 1,252 people have been killed in Nepal, with 4,216 others, including 583 foreign nationals, still missing. Chinese officials reported 21 deaths and 541 people missing in Tibet.
In Nepal, Chitwan recorded 355 deaths, followed by East Nawalparasi with 218, West Nawalparasi with 190, Nuwakot with 177, Rasuwa with 127, Gorkha with 69, Dhading with 60 and Tanahun with 38.
The bodies of 18 people were also recovered in neighboring India and returned to Nepal.
Authorities have deployed 7,912 police personnel across affected areas to assist rescue and relief operations and clear debris from roads, as efforts continue to locate those still missing.
