Khartoum, Sept. 03 (SANA) Two World Food Program trucks carrying food assistance for thousands of people in South Kordofan state in southern Sudan were destroyed in an airstrike outside Dilling on Sunday, Aug.30, the U.N. agency said in a written statement cited Wednesday by UN News.
The World Food Program said the trucks were transporting 50 metric tons of food supplies to Kadugli, the capital of South Kordofan state.
WFP condemned the attack, saying: “Attacks on aid workers and humanitarian operations are unacceptable and must stop.”
The agency said the food was intended to support about 58,000 people in Kadugli who are facing emergency levels of food insecurity.
Drone attacks have increased in recent months and have killed more than 1,000 Sudanese civilians, according to the United Nations.
Sudan has been at war since April 2023 between the army and the Rapid Support Forces militia.
The conflict has killed more than 200,000 people, according to estimates by aid organizations, and displaced more than 12 million people.
The United Nations has described the situation in Sudan as the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.
