Kyiv, Sept. 1 (SANA) Ukraine targeted 54 vessels belonging to what it calls Russia’s “shadow fleet” in August, while Russian ballistic missile strikes on railway facilities in Kyiv killed seven people, Ukrainian officials said Tuesday, as both sides intensified long-range attacks.
Robert Brovdi, commander of Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces, said on Telegram that 260 vessels had been targeted since Operation Molochka began on July 6.
Kyiv says the operation is aimed at weakening Russia’s maritime capabilities and targeting vessels it describes as part of a shadow fleet used by Moscow to transport oil and other goods.
Separately, seven people were killed in Russian ballistic missile strikes overnight on a railway depot and other facilities belonging to Ukraine’s state railway company.
Ukrainian Railways CEO Oleksandr Pertsovskyi said on Facebook that six employees were among those killed and that the strikes caused extensive damage and several fires.
Train services were temporarily suspended on two sections of the railway network before later resuming, he said, while emergency crews worked to extinguish fires at the affected sites.
The developments come amid an escalation in long-range attacks by both sides. Ukraine has stepped up strikes on targets inside Russia in recent months, while Moscow has continued missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian cities, including Kyiv.
