Nicosia, Aug. 30 (SANA) Eight people were reported dead after a passenger boat carrying 267 people capsized off northern Cyprus Sunday, while search-and-rescue operations continued for those still missing.
237 people had been rescued following the incident, Official source told media outlets said. The vessel’s captain and seven crew members had been taken into custody, he added.
The cause of the accident remains unclear. Turkish media cited Üstel as saying the vessel had been struck by two waves shortly before it capsized.
Authorities continued searching the surrounding waters for passengers who remained unaccounted for.
