Brasilia, Aug. 17 (SANA) Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva launched his campaign for another term on Sunday, addressing supporters in the industrial city of São Bernardo do Campo as he seeks re-election.
Lula stressed the importance of Brazil’s labor movement while calling for political and party messaging to adapt to major changes in the labor market, particularly the growth of informal employment and app-based work, Reuters reported.
The 80-year-old president launched his campaign in a city closely associated with his rise as a trade union leader and his subsequent political career.
Lula is one of Latin America’s most prominent political figures and has long been associated with left-wing politics, developing countries and efforts to combat poverty.
He previously served two consecutive terms as Brazil’s president from 2003 to 2010 before returning to the presidency years later.
