Paris, June 17 (SANA) Leaders of the Group of Seven welcomed an agreement reached between the United States and Iran, stressing that its main objective is to prevent Tehran from acquiring a nuclear weapon and enhance regional stability.
In their final statement, according to media reports, the leaders underlined the need to address Iranian missile threats and affirmed that unrestricted, toll-free passage through the Strait of Hormuz is a key pillar of international trade.
The statement said the group would work to diversify energy supply routes, reduce dependence on the Strait of Hormuz and strengthen energy reserves to help ensure market stability.
The G7 said Britain, France and other countries would take part in efforts to protect navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, including verifying mine-clearance operations to secure the vital waterway.
The statement expressed support for an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon and for efforts by the Lebanese leadership to strengthen state authority and stability.
U.S. President Donald Trump announced Monday that the Strait of Hormuz would reopen under the agreement reached with Iran and that the United States would lift its naval blockade on Iran. Reports said the framework agreement had not yet been fully published, leaving some details unclear.
In a separate context, the G7 said it would strengthen sanctions imposed on Russia, including measures targeting the oil and gas sectors, while increasing supplies of air defense capabilities, interceptor missiles, additional systems and long-range weapons to Ukraine.
The European Union announced new sanctions on Russia, targeting energy revenues and the military-industrial and propaganda sectors, and affecting 34 individuals and 47 entities.
