Paris, June 15 (SANA) French President Emmanuel Macron said on Monday that a maritime security mission proposed by France and the United Kingdom is ready to support the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz following an agreement between the United States and Iran to end hostilities.
In a post on X, Macron called for the immediate and unconditional reopening of the strategic waterway, saying the resources needed to secure maritime traffic were available and ready to be deployed.
“The Strait of Hormuz must reopen immediately and without conditions,” Macron said, adding that freedom of navigation is vital to both regional stability and the global economy.
France and Britain, together with several partner countries, proposed an international maritime mission last month to help secure the waterway and clear potential hazards to shipping. The operation is expected to move forward once the U.S.-Iran agreement takes effect.
The Strait of Hormuz, through which a significant share of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas exports pass, is considered one of the most strategically important shipping routes in the world.
Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump announced the reopening of the strait and said Washington would lift its naval blockade of Iran following reports of a ceasefire agreement between the two countries.
