Islamabad/Washington, June 15 (SANA) Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Sunday that the United States and Iran had reached a peace agreement following intensive negotiations, while U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the Strait of Hormuz had reopened and that Washington would lift its naval blockade of Iran.
Sharif said the two sides had agreed to an immediate and permanent halt to military operations and that a formal signing ceremony for the agreement was scheduled to take place in Switzerland on June 19, according to remarks carried by Pakistani media.
He said mediators would facilitate a series of meetings this week as part of efforts to implement the agreement.
Sharif also thanked the United States and Iran for pursuing a diplomatic resolution to the conflict and acknowledged the roles of Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye in supporting mediation efforts.
In Washington, Trump said the agreement between the United States and Iran had been finalized.
“The peace agreement between the United States and Iran is now complete. Congratulations to everyone,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform, according to Agence France-Presse (AFP).
Trump also said he had authorized the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz without transit fees and approved the immediate lifting of the U.S. naval blockade on Iran.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important energy transit routes, carrying a significant share of global oil shipments.
The announcements followed weeks of diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the conflict and restoring shipping through the strategic waterway.
