Kuwait City, June 3 (SANA) Kuwait’s armed forces intercepted 13 ballistic missiles and 17 drones on Wednesday, while an Iranian attack on Kuwait International Airport injured 63 people, according to Kuwaiti authorities.
The Ministry of Defense said air defense systems detected and intercepted the missiles and drones over several residential areas across the country. Military spokesman Col. Saud al-Otaibi said debris from intercepted missiles and drones fell in several locations, while the relevant authorities continued to monitor the situation and take measures to protect citizens and residents.
Earlier on Wednesday, Iranian drones struck Terminal 1 at Kuwait International Airport, causing extensive material damage to the facility and injuring a number of people.
The Ministry of Health later announced that 63 people had been injured in the attack. Health Ministry spokesman Abdullah al-Sanad said hospitals received the casualties after a nationwide medical emergency was declared.
The injured included civilians, airport workers and passengers, with reported injuries ranging from fractures and head trauma to brain hemorrhages, amputations, blast-related wounds and smoke inhalation.
Al-Sanad said seven major emergency surgeries had been performed, while healthcare facilities across the country remain on heightened alert.
The Ministry of Defense stressed that Kuwait’s armed forces remain at the highest level of readiness to respond to any threats targeting the country’s security and territorial integrity.
