New Delhi, May.23 (SANA) US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Saturday that an opportunity exists to conclude an agreement between the United States and Iran aimed at ending the conflict in the Middle East and advancing the ongoing negotiations.
Speaking during a visit to India, Rubio stated, according to France Press Agency (AFP), that the talks had “made some progress”, while not ruling out the possibility that President Donald Trump could resume attacks on Iran.
“There is a chance that we may have something to announce. There could be news later today, or there may not be. I hope there will be news,” Rubio said.
Rubio reiterated that President Trump “always prefers negotiated diplomatic solutions”, noting that this is the course currently being pursued by the US administration.
In the same context, Rubio reiterated Washington’s demand that Iran fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz and surrender its stockpile of highly enriched uranium, saying the US administration believes these issues “will be resolved sooner or later.”
The US Secretary of State arrived in India on Saturday on a visit aimed at reviving the bilateral partnership affected by tariffs imposed by the Trump administration, in an effort to reinvigorate economic relations between the two countries after years of trade tensions.
