Netherlands bans imports of goods produced in Israeli settlements

The Hague , May 23(SANA) The Dutch government approved on Friday a decision to impose a ban on the imports of goods produced in Israeli settlements established on occupied Palestinian territories.

Reuters quoted Dutch Prime Minister, Rob Jetten, as saying that the ban is meant to prevent “any contribution through economic activities by the Netherlands to the unlawful occupation.”

The previous Dutch government last year said it was planning the ban, which is now expected to take effect in the second half of the year.

Meanwhile, The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates on Friday welcomed the decision of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and considered it a significant and advanced step of legal, political, humanitarian, and ethical importance.

The Ministry added the decision of Netherlands is consistent with the principles upheld by the Kingdom of the Netherlands and aligned with international law, relevant UN resolutions, and the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice.
