Riyadh, May 21 (SANA) Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud discussed regional developments and efforts to preserve stability in the Middle East during a phone call Thursday with Portuguese Foreign Minister Paulo Rangel.
According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the two officials reviewed ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at preventing further escalation in the region amid growing tensions linked to the U.S.-Israeli-Iranian crisis.
The talks came a day after Saudi Arabia welcomed a U.S. decision to allow more time for diplomacy and negotiations, stressing the importance of reaching an agreement that safeguards maritime security and freedom of navigation, particularly in the Strait of Hormuz.
Saudi officials have repeatedly called for de-escalation, warning that any military escalation could threaten regional stability and disrupt global energy markets and international shipping routes.
Diplomatic sources said mediation efforts by several Gulf states, including Saudi Arabia, contributed to encouraging Washington to delay a potential military strike against Iran in favor of extending negotiations.
The renewed diplomatic push comes amid growing international concern over the potential economic and security consequences of a wider regional conflict.
