UAE backs Kuwait following foiled maritime infiltration attempt

Abu Dhabi, May 13 (SANA)  The United Arab Emirates condemned an attempted infiltration of Kuwait’s Bubiyan Island by suspects Kuwaiti authorities said were affiliated with Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, reaffirming full solidarity with Kuwait and support for measures to protect its security and sovereignty.

The Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported that UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan discussed regional developments and ways to strengthen regional and international cooperation during a phone call Wednesday with Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.

During the call, Abdullah bin Zayed stressed that Kuwait’s security is an integral part of the security of the UAE and the Gulf states, praising Kuwaiti security agencies for foiling the operation and uncovering its details.

Kuwait’s Interior Ministry said Tuesday that suspects detained following the interception of a maritime infiltration attempt earlier this month confessed during investigations to belonging to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard.

The ministry added that the suspects admitted receiving instructions to infiltrate Bubiyan Island using a fishing boat rented specifically to carry out what it described as “hostile acts” targeting Kuwait.
