London, May 10 (SANA) A cargo vessel was struck by an unidentified projectile while sailing northeast of Doha in the Arabian Gulf, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) agency said on Sunday.

According to Reuters, the incident occurred about 23 nautical miles northeast of the Qatari capital and caused a small fire onboard the vessel. The blaze was quickly contained without injuries to crew members or environmental damage.

UKMTO said authorities had opened an investigation into the source of the projectile and the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The agency also advised ships operating in the area to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately.

The incident comes amid heightened tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, where regional security concerns have intensified alongside ongoing Iranian maritime measures and continued U.S. pressure on Iranian ports and shipping activity.
