Kyiv/Moscow, April 22 (SANA) Fighting between Ukraine and Russia intensified on Wednesday, with both sides reporting casualties and damage as attacks expanded across several regions.
Agence France-Presse quoted Zaporizhzhia regional governor Ivan Fedorov as saying a civilian was killed and another wounded in a Russian strike targeting transport infrastructure in southern Ukraine.
In the Kharkiv region in the northeast, a man was killed and another injured in a drone strike that hit a vehicle, Ukrainian officials said.
Ukraine’s military reported 231 combat clashes over the past 24 hours, adding that Russia carried out 78 airstrikes and dropped 287 guided bombs.
Russia’s Defense Ministry said its air defense systems intercepted 155 Ukrainian drones over several regions, including Kursk, Belgorod and Rostov, as well as Crimea and other areas.
In the Samara region, a Ukrainian drone strike in the city of Syzran caused a partial building collapse, killing two people and injuring 12 others, according to Russia’s emergency services.
The Belgorod region also saw seven attacks in a single day, injuring four civilians, while another person was killed and one wounded in a strike targeting a commercial facility.
On the security front, Russia’s Federal Security Service said it had detained a Russian citizen suspected of planning attacks on military sites under Ukrainian direction.
Ukrainian security authorities said they arrested a suspect in Odesa accused of working for Russian intelligence and plotting to assassinate a military commander.
As cross-border strikes expand deeper into both countries, the conflict continues to escalate militarily and politically, amid growing international warnings of worsening humanitarian consequences in the absence of a diplomatic breakthrough.
