Islamabad, April 26 (SANA) Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed his country’s commitment to acting as an “honest broker” between Iran and the United States, aiming to support regional stability as diplomatic efforts slow.
In a post on social media platform X, Sharif said he discussed regional developments during a phone call with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and expressed appreciation for Iran’s “continued engagement” in diplomatic initiatives, referring to recent high-level visits to Pakistan.
He added that Pakistan, “with the support of friends and partners, will continue to work tirelessly to promote lasting peace and stability in the region.”
The statement comes as diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran face setbacks after the U.S. administration canceled a planned visit by envoys to Islamabad for talks with an Iranian delegation, while maintaining communication channels.
A new round of negotiations had been expected in the Pakistani capital to explore ways to end the conflict that erupted on February 28, but an earlier round concluded without tangible results, raising uncertainty about near-term progress.
