Riyadh/Abu Dhabi, April 5 (SANA) Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates said Sunday their air defense systems intercepted missiles and drones over their territories, amid escalating regional tensions involving the United States, Israel and Iran.
Saudi Arabia’s Defense Ministry said it had intercepted and destroyed a cruise missile in recent hours.
According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), ministry spokesperson Turki al-Maliki confirmed that the missile was successfully intercepted and neutralized.
In the United Arab Emirates, the Defense Ministry said its air defense systems engaged incoming drones and missiles in the country’s airspace.
In a statement posted on X, the ministry said sounds heard in various parts of the country were the result of air defense systems intercepting ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as drones.
On Saturday, the UAE said its defenses intercepted 23 ballistic missiles and 56 drones, which were launched from Iran.
Gulf countries have reported repeated drone and missile attacks since the start of the U.S.-Israeli-Iranian conflict on February 28.
