Washington, March 27 (SANA) U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday he had extended a suspension of potential strikes on Iranian energy facilities by an additional 10 days, setting a new deadline of April 6.
According to Agence France-Presse, Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform: “In response to a request from the Iranian government, please consider this statement as notice that I am extending the deadline for the ultimatum to destroy energy facilities by 10 days, until Monday, April 6.”
Trump added that talks with Iran were proceeding “very well, contrary to what is being reported by some media outlets.”
The U.S. president had earlier this week ordered a five-day pause on potential strikes against Iranian energy infrastructure to allow time for talks between the two sides.
The latest move comes amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran, with diplomatic efforts ongoing to ease the standoff, with growing international warnings over the potential impact of any military escalation on regional stability and global energy markets.
Observers believe the postponement could provide an opportunity to revive diplomatic channels, as international pressure mounts to avoid an open confrontation, while the situation remains dependent on the outcome of ongoing talks.
