London, March 23 (SANA) – British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced on Monday that the UK has deployed additional air defense systems to the Gulf region in response to ongoing military escalation.
Speaking before a parliamentary committee, Starmer said Britain is working with its defense industry to supply air defense missiles to partners in the Gulf and is moving quickly to deploy short-range systems in Bahrain, with similar measures under way for Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.
He also welcomed recent US-Iran talks announced by President Donald Trump, noting that London had been aware of the discussions.
Since the escalation began on February 28, the UK has sent aircraft to support its allies and allowed the United States to use two of its air bases for military operations, including strikes targeting sites inside Iran linked to attacks on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
In parallel, the United Kingdom‘s Ministry of Defense said Minister Luke Pollard held talks with defense companies and regional representatives to boost military support, while the government plans to procure additional short-range air defense missiles to strengthen its capabilities.
The developments come amid continued Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting several countries in the region, causing casualties and damage to infrastructure.
